The Merlin Project OUR THERAPY CENTRE
The Merlin Project
The Cornwall Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre (Merlin Project) will provide a primary care facility for people with MS in Cornwall. It will offer much needed support for those who are newly diagnosed with the disease, their carers and family. To read a little about MS, visit the ABOUT MS page.
Within the centre there will be specialised equipment, for instance a High Dosage Oxygen chamber. These are designed like the decompression chambers used by divers. People with MS often find their symptoms are helped by having HDO treatment. Pure Oxygen is delivered at one and a half times atmospheric pressure to people in the chamber for specified periods of time - see High Dosage Oxygen under Our Therapy Centre.

There will also be treatment rooms, so that complementary therapies may be provided. People with MS often find help from things like Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Homeopathy and Acupuncture. We need to build the rooms for them to work in! The Schematic drawing below shows how the centre might look, at the site at Hewaswater near to St Austell.

We also need an Aquatherapy Pool, a Gym and Physiotherapy equipment ... the cost of the Centre, will be at least £1.9 million. We are aiming to commence the building program in early 2008, so fundraising is continuing in earnest.

As mentioned in our introduction we have one of the largest populations of MS people in the UK within the county of Cornwall. The far reaching effects of the disease change the lives of those diagnosed, and their families and friends. It is these people, the community of Cornwall and of course visitors to the county, that the centre will serve.
